Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther costume missed a key element that we’d like to see when T’Challa is recast

Marvel Studios has the perfect opportunity to finally bring a missing element from T’Challa’s costume to the MCU, if so Black panther will be recast. T’Challa is one of Marvel’s most notable and important superheroes, which made him an instant favorite in the MCU when the late Chadwick Boseman brought T’Challa’s Black Panther to life Captain America: Civil War. Boseman’s sudden death in 2020 resulted in T’Challa being removed from office Black Panther: Wakanda ForeverHowever, it leaves a big gap in the MCU.

According to insider Jeff Sneider, it’s Marvel Studios “firmly open” on the recasting of T’Challa’s Black Panther in the MCU. This was avoided Black Panther: Wakanda Foreveras the sequel instead directly addressed the cast, crew and audience’s grief over the loss of Chadwick Boseman and T’Challa, but now Exploring the multiverse means a new T’Challa can debut in the MCU. This new version could be significantly different from Boseman’s version and could be even weirder than the MCU’s original Black Panther.

Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa never wore a cape in the MCU

Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa wasn’t entirely funny

T'Challa's Black Panther in the MCU

While Chadwick Boseman did an incredible job delivering a T’Challa full of likeable qualities and a charismatic and vulnerable personality, not everything about his character stayed true to Marvel Comics’ Wakandan protector. Above all, Marvel Studios has massively upgraded Black Panther’s costume for the live-action MCU, making it significantly more modern and armored and, crucially, removing the cape. T’Challa’s Black Panther wore a cape in his very first Marvel Comics appearance in 1966 Fantastic Four #52but this was not a permanent addition.

Many superheroes wore capes in Marvel Comics, which were later removed in the live-action MCU. While Thor and Vision maintained updated versions of their classic comic book looks, Black Panther’s cape has been permanently removed for the MCU, but the recast of the iconic hero now offers the opportunity to reintroduce it. The debut of a variant of T’Challa’s Black Panther means Marvel can take some creative liberties with the new version, and giving him a cape would be a great development.

What other changes to the Black Panther costume could a T’Challa recast make?

A new Black Panther could be completely different

A cape isn’t the only addition Marvel Studios could add to the new Black Panther costume if T’Challa is recast Avengers: End of the World, Secret wars or the upcoming MCU Black Panther 3. Actually it is Black Panther has worn many different costumes in Marvel Comics, which could serve as inspiration for the hero’s new costume in the MCUespecially the Black Panther’s iconic, elegant body outfit, which may have already been seen during Bashenga’s appearance in Black panther. This is T’Challa’s most prominent costume in the Marvel comics, so it would be great to see in the MCU.
