Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provides updates on Mahomes

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provides an update on Mahomes before the game against the Texans

All right, uh, as for the guys that didn’t practice today, it was Jamari and DJ, uh. And then the other guys were out there working. Uh, I know the questions are about Patrick, um, he, he’s been training fully this week and, uh. In the end we will most likely play. We’ll just see how it goes today, um, rotator guys at the. At the left tackle position, um, Joe Tooney is one of them, and then the young guys, so, um, and we’ll just finish that as we get closer here, but they’ve all put in work there. Um, given the challenge of playing against the Texans, Mico did a hell of a job there and they’re good offensively, defensively and special teams wise. So, um, you know, but our guys had a hell of a week of preparation. Look forward to the challenge this time, George. Uh, yeah, the chances of that are pretty darn good. Uh. As for the Texans and their defense at the top, we’ve seen a bit of a bullet point in the word type comments, as in and uh. You have to play a game like that with your players, right, and show them their comments. You see enough of it online. we just play. We practice and play, so we can’t worry. I’m so sorry, sir. What, what, what did Hollywood look like? I mean, have. Yeah, he’s done, he did a damn good job, um. I mentioned earlier that it wasn’t, it wasn’t his leg, so he was able to walk, um, keep himself in shape, um, but the rest was the surgery that he didn’t pay attention to . I was fine, yes. Andy, do you have a feeling at this point that Patrick will play unless he suffers a major setback? Is that what it’s all about? Yeah, listen, I don’t want to lead you one way or the other. I’m going to make sure we take it day by day, and that’s about where we’re at. But he looked good out there. Yes. When you say you look good, can you elaborate? What, what specifically did you see from him to let you know he was ready to go? Yes, he moved pretty well, so always make sure you can avoid him, not. Not to do them any more harm, so, uh, that’s what I’m looking at your work this week. Did you give Carson a little more than usual when you were working with the regular guy? Uh, yeah, well, not necessarily with the regular guys, but he got some extra stuff, yeah. As far as Chamari, as far as his concussion goes, where is he in the protocol and is there, you know, a damn chance he can still play on Wednesday? There’s a damn chance Wednesday, um. But right now he’s still on the pro call and going through this, but he’s getting better every day, so we’ll just have to see, um, definitely think for this game. Uh, coach, I guess nothing really surprises you with Patrick, um, but do you think he would be as good physically as he is now 5 days ago? I wasn’t sure. I’ve been through it with him before and he surprised me every time he did it. I mean, the guy is so mentally strong and, to put it simply, it’s one hell of a mindset that he has when he goes into it and. Um. So where he was a few days ago, yeah, I’d probably say it was pretty damn far-fetched, but you know, he did well, you know. And you only have a damn few games left for the season. Ultimately, your goal is to get DJ back into the left tackle spot. Do you think that’s somehow the case? Yeah, we just did it, we have to keep the hamstrings out because we’re being damn careful. I don’t want to go out and do it again and um. But yeah, at some point he’ll get back in there and get started. They think it’s reasonable for him to play against Pittsburgh. There’s a damn chance, there’s a damn chance, but I mean, literally he went out and ran and stuff to see. Uh, to test it, you know, but he didn’t know this explosion at the moment, so, but it gets better as we go along.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provides an update on Mahomes before the game against the Texans

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid indicated that things are looking good for quarterback Patrick Mahomes to play on Saturday. Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. He was taken out of the game in the fourth quarter, but tests later said tests showed the sprain was “mild.” Although the injury caused anxiety among Chiefs fans as the team faces a tight schedule, Mahomes has been fully committed to practicing every day this week. “He trained fully this week and will most likely play at the end,” Reid said. “We’ll just see how it goes today (Thursday).” Reid wasn’t ready to say with 100 percent certainty that he would play, but he did say that Mahomes performed well again in practice on Thursday. “I don’t. I want to lead you in one direction or another. … We’ve been taking it day by day and that’s about where we’re at,” Reid said. “He looked really good out there. … He moved pretty well. “This is not the first time Mahomes has struggled with an ankle injury. He even injured his ankle at the start of this season, but was able to return to training straight away. “He surprises me every time he does it,” Reid said. “He’s so mentally strong. It’s a mindset that he has going into it, so where he was a few days ago, yeah, I’d probably say it’s been a long road (he’s playing on Saturday), but he’s done well.”
