Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown returns to practice, per source

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Wide receiver Hollywood Brown will practice with the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday for the first time since an injury left him out of the lineup in August, a source said.

Brown suffered a sternoclavicular injury after being tackled in the Chiefs’ first preseason game, a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Brown underwent surgery and was placed on the injured reserve list, but the Chiefs were hopeful he would return at some point this season.

Kansas City has a three-week window to activate Brown from injured reserve. While he won’t play in Sunday’s game against the Browns in Cleveland, he could well return in a Week 16 game against the Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium.

“He won’t play this week,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Friday. “But it’s nice to have him back out there and getting going. He did a lot of good work today. You can tell he’s been working. The conditioning part wasn’t a problem. He did quite a few reps.”

Brown was the Chiefs’ big free agent signing this year. Kansas City relied on Brown and first-round draft pick Xavier Worthy to improve its passing game.

Rashee Rice, the Chiefs’ top wide receiver, injured his knee in a game against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4 and is out for the season. Worthy leads the Chiefs’ wide receivers with 38 catches for 448 yards and four touchdowns.
