China tries to downplay the effects of the trade war on his economy

China’s guide has sent a clear message about the effects of the comprehensive tariffs of the Trump government: things will be painful, but it is nothing that the country cannot do.

A comment on Sunday in the mouthpiece of the Communist Party, The People’s Daily, said Beijing had prepared for a trade war with the United States and China could possibly come out more.

“The abuse of tariffs by the United States will affect China, but” the sky will not fall, “it said. “China is a super economy. We are strong and resilient in view of the US tariff bullying.”

The comment emphasized, as China hopes to position itself when the tariffs lead to an increasing economic disorder. It would like to be seen as a responsible advocate of fair trade, which is too powerful in order to succumb to us.

China also tried to project solidarity with other nations that were targeted by US tariffs in another state media comment on Sunday.

In this article, China accused the United States to “undermine the existing International Economic and Trade Ordinance” by being placed “US interests about the common good of the international community”. Washington has also prepared “US hegemonic ambitions at the expense of the legitimate interests of all countries”, it said.

China’s projection of the relative strength corresponds to the grave that the tariffs of the Trump government could harm to cause the country.

Mr. Trump offers a global trading system that is currently dominating China. And exports are still the strongest growth engine at a time when China tries to dig out of a real estate crisis and tackle other important economic problems.

Nevertheless, people’s daily comment argued that China was ready to survive Mr. Trump’s tariffs because it was no longer dependent on the US market for his exports. It also said that China’s banks were well capitalized and had space to bring more money into the domestic economy. And it was argued that it can repel it in the United States with a number of new regulatory instruments in the United States.

Some of these tools were used on Friday when China reacted to Mr. Trump’s tariffs by putting 11 American companies on a unreliable company list, and another 16 on an export control list. It also announced export controls for medium and difficult rare earths. This was also only possible to beat US tariffs with tariffs of 34 percent in order to fulfill the duties imposed on Chinese goods.

China tries for months to have high-ranking talks with the Trump government to prepare for a potential summit between Mr. Trump and China’s top guide Xi Jinping. But Beijing tried to get a big answer from the White House, although Mr. Trump said at the beginning of this year he was open to working with Mr. XI.

China’s reactions to two more rounds of 10 percent tariffs, which were raised by the United States at the beginning of this year, were calibrated to leave the door open for negotiations. Some analysts said that the countermeasures were also designed on Friday.

The people’s daily comment said that China “did not close the door for negotiations”, but that he would also prepare for the worst. It said that the impending crisis would force China to further reform his economy in order to rely more on its huge domestic market.

“We have to convert pressure into motivation,” it said.

Despite his bravery over the American tariffs, China also censored criticisms of his own attempt to impose retaliation duties.

On Friday, a researcher from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences on social media wrote that China’s countermeasures were “completely wrong”.

“The United States shoots themselves into their feet, so we shouldn’t shoot ourselves in our foot,” the researcher wrote that he, the deputy director of the Academy Center for Public Policy Research. “The correct countermeasure is to implement one -sided zero tariffs for imports from all countries.”

Mr. He posted the comment on his personal Wechat moments, which are only visible to his friends and are similar to a private Facebook page. But a screenshot of the post started to circulate quickly.

On Sunday, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences announced that it had closed the center in which it worked. There was no reason for the closure, but cited internal regulations on the management of research centers. These regulations state that, among other things, “the right political direction must be held”.

Screenshots by Mr. Er’s comment were also grayed on Weibo, another social media platform.

The center was possibly already under an intensive examination: his director Zhu Hengpeng was arrested last year and removed from his contributions after he allegedly made comments critically for Mr. XI in a private group chat, the Wall Street Journal reported in September.

In the Chinese social media, the nationalist commentators cheered the center of the center and linked them to Mr. He are comments. “Determined the spirit of the central government’s guideline!” wrote a military blogger with 4 million followers on Weibo.
