Chris Drury agrees to an extension of the contract with several years

The New York Rangers announced today that the President and General Manager Chris Drury approved the provisions for several years of contract extension.

“I am pleased that Chris will continue to lead the Rangers hockey operations in his role as President and General Manager,” said James L. Dolan, chairman and CEO of MSG Sports Executive. “In the course of his tenure, Chris has shown passion for the Rangers, relentless work ethic and a tireless pursuit of excellence. Although we are all disappointed what happened last season, I am confident that this organization is to be successful.”

“I feel honored to sign this contract extension and to further develop this position with the team I grew up,” said Drury. “As I said when I started this role almost four years ago, there is no special organization in hockey and I look forward to continuing our work in this low season to achieve our goals for the next season and in the coming years.”

Drury has been President and General Manager of the Rangers since May 5, 2021 when he was appointed 12TH President and 12TH General Manager in Franchise history. During Drury’s four full seasons in the role, the Rangers set a record of 193-105-30 in 328 regular season games and came to the Stanley Cup Playoffs three times. The Rangers victory of Rangers 193 against Drury’s four full seasons as President and General Manager of the team are most of the people who have earned the rangers in franchise history for over four years.

In Drury’s first three full seasons as President and General Manager of Rangers, the team played 43 playoff games and won 23 of them. In these three years, the 43 playoff games of the blues shirts were the fourth most frequent in the NHL and their 23 victories were bound to the fourth most frequently in the NHL. In addition, both sums were the second most common among the teams of the Eastern Conference. Before the three-year range from 2021-22 to 2023-24, the Rangers had played 43 or more playoff games and achieved 23 or more playoff wins over a period of three years on only four other occasions in franchise history.

During the 2023-24 season, the team franchise records set up 55 wins and 114 points and won the trophy trophy for the best regular season record in the NHL. In the first full season of Drury as President and General Manager in 2021-22, the Rangers received 52 wins and 110 points, and he was appointed the finalist for Jim Gregory’s award for General Manager of the Year.

Before Drury was appointed President and General Manager, he spent six seasons in the Rangers Front Office. The native Trumbull, Connecticut, returned the organization on September 4, 2015 in a role of the front office when he was appointed Rangers’ Director of Player Development. Almost a year later – on September 2, 2016 – Drury was appointed deputy general manager of the Rangers and on February 5, 2021 he was promoted to the deputy general manager. During his tenure in the Rangers ‘front, he was also a general manager of the Ranger’ American Hockey League (AHL) -Affiliate, Hartford Wolf Pack.

In addition to his current role in the Rangers, Drury worked in a leadership role at an international level. He was General Manager of the US men’s national team at the IIHF World Championship in 2019 and 2021 and helped the team to earn a bronze medal in 2021. Drury was also selected to serve the IIHF World Championship 2020 in the same capacity. Recently, he was deputy general manager of the American men’s national team in the face of 2025 4 Nations and is also a member of the US advisory group of the US men’s national team, who is responsible for the compilation of the team USA squad for the upcoming IIHF World Championship 2025.

During his career, Drury played in 892 games with the Colorado Avalanche, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres and the Rangers over 12 seasons and registered 255 goals and 360 templates for 615 points. Drury conquered the Stanley Cup as a member of the avalanche in 2000-01 and took second place in the NHL during the team’s playoff run with 11 goals in 23 games. In 1998-99 Drury received the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year of the NHL. The Drury team reached the playoffs in nine of his twelve seasons in the NHL, and his team rose six times to the final of the conference. He played four seasons with the Rangers (2007-08-2010-11) after signing the team as Free Agent on July 1, 2007. In addition, Drury served for three seasons (2008-09-2010-11) as captain of the 25th captain in franchise history on October 3, 2008.

During Drury’s collegiate career at Boston University, the Terriers conquered the 1994-95 national championship and performed twice in the national championship game (1994-95, 1996-97). He was selected twice as the first team All-American (1996-97, 1997-98), a finalist in Hobey Baker as a top player in college hockey (1995-96, 1996-97, 1997-98), and he became the first Terrier to get the Hägey Baker Award in 1997-98. Internationally, Drury represented the United States in numerous tournaments and earned several medals. He took part in three consecutive Winter Olympics (2002, 2006, 2010) and took a silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, and at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia. Drury was included in the US Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015.
