“Class of 2025 5 Star Qb Keelon Russel Signs with Alabama”

Keelon Russell, a 5-star prospect from Duncanville, Texas, signed with Alabama on Early National Signing Day at Duncanville High School Basketball Arena on Wednesday morning with the goal of becoming the next great Crimson Tide quarterback.

Russell has been with the Tide since June 4 after transferring from the SMU Mustangs, who he joined in September 2023.

On3’s top prospect in Texas for the 2025 recruiting class will take his rocket arm and incredible athleticism to the University of Alabama in January, where the 6-foot-1, 182-pound quarterback will be an early enrollee.

According to On3, the 5-star quarterback recruit from Alabama is now listed as the top player in Texas and the second-best prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. Russell completed 71.5% of his throws in his senior season, totaling 3,652 yards and 52 touchdowns with just two interceptions. Russel was also productive on the ground, with the senior passing for over 200 yards and two touchdowns.

Russell’s On3 scouting report describes him as “a versatile, instinctive quarterback prospect with surgical passing skills, good athleticism and a battle-tested resume.” This assessment is borne out by his accomplishments, which include multiple state championships at Texas’ top high school level. football class during his sophomore and junior seasons. According to the report, “his arm strength improved significantly as a senior and delivered passes with outstanding mid-range speed.” It highlights that Russell “has a premier presence, is unaffected by pressure and shows a willingness to step up and to deliver precise throws in difficult situations”. The scouting report also states that Russell is “one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the 2025 cycle.”

Alabama’s only quarterback commitment in the 2025 recruiting class has led the Duncanville High School Panthers to back-to-back Texas 6A Division 1 State Championships in 2022 and 2023. He is now aiming for a third title as the Panthers, led by Russell, prepare to face the Bridgeland Bears in the quarterfinals of the Texas 6A Division 1 State Playoffs this Friday night. In their final game against the Woodlands Highlanders, Russell had an impressive performance, throwing for 440 yards and six touchdowns, helping the Panthers to a 42-20 victory in the second round of the playoffs.
