Colin Jost can thank “SNL” for meeting his wife Scarlett Johansson

Long-term Saturday Night Live Fans know it Colin Jost. He has been featured on the series for nearly two decades, starting as a writer in 2005 before transitioning to becoming a writer Weekend update Co-host in 2014. He is also about to branch out into a different genre of TV as he will be appearing as a host Pop Culture Danger! on Amazon Prime from December 4th. But what is his life like away from the small screen? Well, he stays busy with his wife Scarlett Johansson and her family.

Like most Hollywood romances, Colin and Scarlett’s love story began on set. The two first met in January 2006 when Scarlett was hosting an episode of ” SNL Season 31. The two stayed in touch afterward, and more than a decade later, the two sparked dating rumors when she appeared on the series SNL Season 42 finale in May 2017.

“The first time she hosted was the first year I was on the show as a writer,” Colin shared People about the first time the couple met. “So we’ve kind of known each other since then…she’s the best.”

Even though Scarlett had just gotten out of a relationship with her ex-husband Romain Dauriac (Whom she shares daughter rose), she and Colin quickly became a unit. They made their public debut in November 2017 and later became official TV couples when Scarlett appeared alongside Colin in the finale of A SNL Follow a month later.

While the couple kept their romance a secret, they updated their fans about when they reached a major milestone in their relationship. In May 2019, the pair announced their engagement, with Scarlett confirming the news while hosting SNL for the sixth time in December this year.

“This place means so much to me,” she said in the opening monologue. “I have so many friends here and I met the love of my life here.”

A year and a half later, in October 2020, Colin and Scarlett married in a small ceremony with only family and loved ones due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It wasn’t long before the two announced they were expecting their first child together and welcomed their son Cosmo in August 2021. Additionally, Colin announced the news of Cosmo’s birth on Instagram, with Scarlett sharing more details about her life as parents at the 35th Annual American Cinematheque Awards in November of the same year.

“I feel very fortunate to have been able to use this time to really enjoy the early stages of motherhood with our son,” she said Entertainment tonight at the time. “It was wonderful. I’m in a baby happy bubble.”

The couple has since supported each other in various professional endeavors (such as when Colin appeared in Scarlett’s videos promoting her skincare line, The Outset). Appearing on the show, Scarlett also opened up about why she loves being with Colin and what makes her marriage successful Crap Podcast in April 2023. According to the actress, their romance works because Colin gives her the feelings and things she didn’t even know she needed in a relationship.

“I never realized, ‘Oh, it’s really important for me, I need to be with a compassionate person. That’s a fundamental quality that has to be there,'” she shared at the time. “It worked for Colin and me because I was finally able to step back and respect myself enough to know what those (basic wants and needs) were.”
