Colorado retired jerseys from Travis Hunter and Shedur Sanders before the spring game

Colorado officially withdrawn the number of Travis Hunter and Shedur Sanders on Saturday.

The two likely draft picks in the first round in the NFL design of 2025 were honored in a ceremony in the spring game of the Buffaloes. The two players each spent two seasons in Boulder and helped Colorado to become national relevant again after the arrival of coach Deion Sanders from Jackson State.

It is impossible to argue with Hunter’s Jersey retirement. He was electrically in Colorado during his time and, thanks to a phenomenal season 2024, became the second Heisman winner of the school. Hunter was omnipresent on both sides of the ball as a cornerback and Wide Receiver and was Colorado’s leading receiver and top defensive back.

Sanders was a productive quarterback, especially in 2024. He completed 74% of his passports and threw for over 4,100 yards with 37 TD passes. He took eighth place in the Heisman vote. However, he was not an all-American, and he also won no big awards. Will his number retire if he is not the coach’s son?

“Let us bring us the elephant out of the room. I don’t want to talk about it too long,” said Deion Sanders at a press conference. “I’ll just speak briefly and let go of it. We talk about Shedur, we don’t talk about anyone else. If his last name was not Sanders, we would not have this discussion. Only why we have this discussion is his last name Sanders. Ok? That is.

“At this university it has achieved so many things that it was incredible. And I think we should be grateful and we should be grateful. We have a room full of wonderful people who cover us and I don’t know if they were all in this room two or three years ago. I mean very few.

Deion is right. But not as he thinks. There is no discussion to withdraw the number of Kyle McCord in Syracuse and Jaxson Dart with Ole Miss immediately. Both quarterbacks threw more yards than Sanders in 2024, and both teams won more games than the Buffaloes.

Even if you believe that Sanders is the best quarterback in the history of Colorado after thrown more than 4,000 meters in a winning season, how high is the rush to retire? It is not the case that the Buffaloes won the Big 12 or sniffed on College Football playoff. You didn’t even make it to the title game of the conference.

The former Linebacker of Steelers and Buffaloes, Chad Brown, wondered why Colorado was moving so quickly to withdraw the numbers of the players.
