Coming soon: 2025 Blueprint for Alabama

A message from the Alabama Policy Institute

Ahead of the 2024 regular session, API released its BluePrint for Alabama, a conservative 30-point strategic plan supported by Guides to the Issues for each issue. The blueprint has been divided into categories based on the APIThe three pillars are: free markets, limited government and strong families. BluePrint 2024 was welcomed by many allies in the Alabama House of Representatives and Senate. Of the 30 proposals, 25 were examined by at least one chamber. Of these 25, 17 are APIBluePrint’s priorities were successful, including preventing the expansion of gambling and Medicaid expansion and passing universal school choice.

Building on the successes of the 2024 session, API will release a 2025 BluePrint for Alabama this December. Over the past few months, API staff, interns, and fellows have identified key issues that should be addressed in 2025. Along the way, we examined best practices from neighboring states, received input from national groups, and heard directly from Alabama legislators about their priorities and desires.

API has identified 15 proposals from BluePrint 2024 that we plan to pursue again in 2025. These include major reforms, as well as other important issues such as certificate of need reform, tax and budget reforms, expanding health freedom, and protecting minors from exposure to inappropriate materials, both public and online.

In addition to the 15 existing policy proposals, we have identified 15 new priorities to be included in the 2025 BluePrint for Alabama. New proposals will include topics such as strengthening the states unemployment requirements to give Alabamians a better incentive to actively seek employment, bring more control and transparency into state regulatory and budget processes, ensure certain protections in public spaces, implement criminal justice and medical reforms To provide patients with few remaining healthcare options the opportunity to pursue innovative and potential options including life-saving treatment.

We have carefully selected the list to ensure a balance between fiscal and social issues and to lay the foundation for policies that may require more than one legislative session to implement. We believe that together we can continue to build on the successes of BluePrint 2024. Our mission is to improve the lives of Alabamians through public action, and API is poised to have a significant impact on the 2025 legislative process.
