Compton: The father of a 9-year-old who was shot outside his grandfather’s home is arrested

The father of a 9 year old boy who was shot in front of his grandfather’s house A man was arrested in Compton on Saturday evening, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said on Monday.

Investigators identified 32-year-old Nicholas Jones of Compton as the suspect. He was arrested Sunday on charges of murder and child abuse resulting in death, investigators said.

On Saturday, November 30, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers from the Compton Sheriff’s Station responded to the 15000 block of South Haskins Avenue for a person shot. The victim was 9-year-old Princeton Jones, who was found with a gunshot wound in the backyard of the home and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services issued the following statement:

“While we understand the public’s interest in children in the community who may have received supportive services from DCFS, state law prohibits us from commenting on our potential involvement with families. Confidentiality laws protect children and families from emotional distress and stigma, while complex family issues are resolved.”

Jones was booked at the East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station. The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
