How to play “connections”

The players are commissioned to find common topics under a number of 16 words. These words have to be divided into four categories that are colored for difficulties: yellow is easiest, followed by green, blue and then purple.

For example, in the game on Tuesday, the words “alarm”, “Bell”, “Intercom” and “Telephone” were linked to the green category “things that ring”.

If you need a reset, this may help the “Shuffle” button that mixes the words.

Wyna Liu – puzzle editor at The New York Times Who comes with that Connections Games – shared their best advice on solving the game Newsweek Reader.

“Wait as long as possible before guessing. You may see the board and have fully identified the category to see five words that could belong in this category,” said Liu. “Don’t try to guess the four words in this category, because although you know what the fifth member is, you will not know which of the four may not be.”

Liu also encouraged the players not to “solve anger” from which she is known from time to time.
