Shortly before Donald Trump took office for the first time, he held a press conference and announced that he would hand control of his business empire to his sons.

He said he wanted to address concerns about conflicts of interest, although he claimed it wasn’t strictly necessary. Saying, “I could actually run my company. I could actually run my company and run the government at the same time. I don’t like it, but I could do it if I wanted to.”

Trump’s second term could put this theory to the test. The former and future president has not yet announced a plan to insulate himself from his businesses while in office, and Trump’s businesses, such as his many hotels and resorts, could benefit significantly from his actions as president.
