Two men were arrested on warrants after a disturbance call

A man arrested on two warrants is also accused of possessing what Cortez police believe to be fentanyl pills in his truck. Police arrested another man at the same location on three warrants.

Police were dispatched to South Oak Street around 11:47 a.m. Nov. 23 after receiving a call about a disturbance. When Officer Brady Veach and Sgt. Vance Carver arrived, they came into contact with Brian Gallegos and Marque Lopez. Gallegos told police he was there to pick up Lopez because residents of the Oak Street home didn’t want her there.

Dispatch notified Veach and Carver and then learned that Gallegos had two arrest warrants in Montezuma County and two restraining orders. One of the restraining orders states that Gallegos must stay 100 meters away from Lopez.

After Gallegos’ arrest, police also arrested Shawn Abein on three warrants. Abein had been at the house where Gallegos allegedly picked up Lopez.

A pipe and other drug paraphernalia were allegedly discovered in Gallegos’ truck after he and Abein were taken to the Montezuma County Jail. According to police, four blue pills were found with the letter “M” on one side and the number “30” on the other, believed to be fentanyl.

When asked about the pills, Lopez told police that the drugs belonged to a woman who had “nothing to do with the call.”
