  1. Some Virginia Beach residents are concerned about recent coyote sightings. A resident reached out to News 3 after claiming one of his cats was attacked by a cat yesterday morning. Now some residents are telling us they are worried about what could happen if someone or another small animal is attacked.

    We spoke with someone from the Department of Wildlife Resources who said that in Virginia Beach and many urban areas, it is illegal to shoot a gun at a target in your backyard. Depending on which county you live in, there are legal methods for coyote removal. Watch the video for more information.

  2. The amount of data collected by big tech companies is “alarming,” according to a new report. The FTC report is based on responses from nine of the largest social media and video streaming services.

    According to the report, companies collect and use data from people who use their platforms and, in some cases, sell users’ collected data to known and unknown third parties.

    An ODU professor who studies technology weighed in on the matter, raising concerns about children’s access to these services.

    The FTC report says the amount of data collected by social media and streaming companies is “alarming.”

  3. Despite snow, a new US air travel record was set over Thanksgiving weekend. According to the US Transportation Security Administration, 3.09 million passengers were screened at US airports on Sunday, around 74,000 more than the previous daily record set on July 7th.

    However, there were some travel issues due to lake effect snow that created dangerous road conditions for days in parts of the Great Lakes region.

Meteorologist Myles Henderson says we’ll wake up this morning to temperatures in the 30s and 20s with skies clearing early. We’ll see mostly sunny skies today with highs in the 40s, 10 to 15 degrees below normal for this time of year.

It will feel about 5 degrees cooler with a northwest wind of 10 to 15 mph. Tomorrow it will be cool and windy again.

We’re hanging in there: Neighbors urge safety measures after fatal Colley Ave crash

  • After a man was struck and killed by a car on Colley Avenue, Highland Park neighbors want change. Leo LaRue was hit by a car while walking his dogs on Colley just two days before Thanksgiving.

    News 3 spoke with LaRue’s family for the first time the day after his death last week. They told us they wanted more security measures on Colley to prevent further tragedies. A friend told us, “Maybe it’s time for a flashing red light…people are coming and lighting a jet plane over this bridge…”

    Yesterday we asked the police about the status of the investigation. They told us the investigation is ongoing and that the results, once complete, will be forwarded to the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office for review.

    We also spoke with another person who knew LaRue and wants changes, particularly those involving street lighting.
