Create Waupun continues its “We Can Do It” community challenge

(Waupun) A nonprofit group in Waupun is moving closer to its goal of acquiring an important historical statue. Create Waupun, whose mission is to source sculptures and murals to improve the city, announced its “We Can Do It” challenge in October, aimed at raising funds to purchase the iconic Rosie the Riveter sculpture.

To date, the Waupun community has raised $9,800 of $15,500 in matching funds from the National Rivet and Manufacturing Company.

Officials with the nonprofit say the sculpture will not only beautify Waupun, but will also serve as a reminder of the important contributions women have made both in history and in contemporary society. Bur Zeratsky, president of the National Rivet and Manufacturing Company, says Waupun was an important transshipment point for rivets that were crucial to the war effort.

According to Create Waupun, their goal is to raise $31,000 by the end of the year. All funds raised not only cover the cost of the sculpture, but also contribute to its installation and ongoing maintenance.

Those wishing to donate can do so by visiting Horicon Bank at 807 West Main Street in Waupun or online by clicking HERE. Donations made before December 31st are tax deductible.

The “We Can Do It” sculpture is currently located across from the Waupun Public Safety Building at 16 East Main Street, in front of National Rivet’s main manufacturing facility.
