Cruise Lake Michigan at sunset on a 410-foot historic car ferry

LUDINGTON, MI – Watching a sunset over Lake Michigan from the deck of this historic car ferry is a rare experience that will be offered four times in 2025.

Coastal cruises on the SS Badger offer spectacular views, live entertainment, food and a bar. The onboard gift shop, cinema, museum and lounge areas are also open for these excursions.

All four sunset cruises embark from Ludington and sail along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, offering coastal views and sunset views over the water. Passengers begin boarding at 8:30 p.m. and the ship departs from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m

Here is the schedule:

  • Wednesday, June 18 ($60 per person)
  • Friday, July 4th ($72 per person)
  • Wednesday, July 23 ($60 per person)
  • Wednesday, August 20 ($60 per person)

Entertainment and themes for the events were not announced.

Additionally, four afternoon coastal cruises are scheduled from Manitowoc, Wisconsin, on Saturdays, June 14, July 19, August 2 and August 16. Passengers board at 1:30 p.m. and sail from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Topics and entertainment were not announced. The cost is $60 per person; Children up to 4 years old have free entry.

All coastal cruises sail rain or shine.

The SS Badger car ferry provides maritime service between Ludington and Manitowoc, Wisconsin, with daily round-trip service May through October.

The year 2025 will mark the 72nd anniversary of the SS Badger. It is the last operating coal-fired passenger steamer in the United States. The 410-foot-long ship was recognized as a National Historic Landmark in 2016. It was originally designed to transport railcars across Lake Michigan.
