I thought I would win if I could consolidate my position, and at some point things got difficult. “I don’t know where I missed, but it should be a win,” said the Indian.
Gukesh expressed his disappointment but also acknowledged that Liren had missed opportunities early in the game.
“The result is fine. Obviously an opportunity was missed today. It’s a bit of a disappointment, but he (Liren) also missed a few chances at the start of the game. So I think it’s fair that we’re here. “The second half will of course be crucial,” he added.
Liren seemed to have solved his opening difficulties in recent games. However, he was on defense in this game.
Liren’s defense proved resilient and managed to overcome the difficult situation and secure a draw.
