Dangerous man in California for murder escapes custody, manhunt underway

A dangerous criminal incarcerated for murder escaped from the custody of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) on Monday.

Caesar Hernandez, 34, was being transported to the courthouse near 10th Avenue and Kensington Street when he jumped out of the van.

He was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison with the possibility of parole for first-degree murder, a second-offense offense, a CDCR statement said.

According to CDCR, Delano police along with other law enforcement agencies are assisting in the search for Hernandez.

He was last seen wearing an orange jumpsuit with white thermals and is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 161 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, according to the Department of Corrections.

Hernandez is considered dangerous and police urge anyone with information about him to immediately contact local law enforcement, call 9-1-1 or Lt. Contact Anthony Sotello, Incident Commander, at (661) 721-6300, extension 5506.

“Thank you for your vigilance in ensuring the safety of the community. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available,” officials said.

Since 1977, 99% of all offenders who left an adult facility, camp, or community-based program without permission were arrested.
