Dave Portnoy on Michigan-Ohio State brawl as cops use pepper spray – Football – Sports

Dave Portnoy criticized Ohio State players after a mass brawl broke out on the field following Saturday’s game against Michigan.

The matchup at Ohio Stadium in Columbus descended into chaos after Michigan secured a famous 13-10 victory thanks to a late field goal in the fourth quarter. Michigan’s win is its fourth in a row against Ohio State, one of its biggest rivals, but the game will be remembered for what happened afterward.

A mass brawl broke out on the field after a Wolverines player placed a Michigan flag on the 50-yard line. Countless players were involved in the altercation and the police even used pepper spray to stop the violence.

Two Michigan players believed to be pepper spray victims were caught on camera distraught and tears streaming from their eyes. Portnoy, who is a Michigan fan, responded to the altercation with X.

“Hey, greetings to Ohio State after the game!” Portnoy commented sarcastically as the violence unfolded on television. “I put up a great fight! Four losses in a row, but here we go… Look at Jack Sawyer (tearing down the flag)! Big (No.) 33! I think he’s 0-4 against Michigan now.”

“Does that count? Throw down the flag! Outta Boy 33! Outta Boy 33! Never beat Michigan, never beat Michigan! These seniors – see you! 0-4!” Hit the flag, break the flag. Listen, you don’t want the flag placed on the 50 yard line? How about defeating us, you cowards?”

Michigan’s win was a huge surprise. The Wolverines are the reigning national champions but lost coach Jim Harbaugh and star quarterback JJ McCarthy to the NFL in the offseason. Harbaugh became head coach of the Los Angeles Charges while McCarthy was a first-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Michigan entered Saturday’s game with a modest 6-5 record, while Ohio State had a 10-1 record. Despite their impressive form this season, the Buckeyes suffered another loss to the Wolverines.

“When you have a great game like that, you hate to see something like that after the game,” Michigan running back Kalel Mullings said after the violence unfolded.

“It’s bad for sports, bad for college football. But at the end of the day, some people have to learn how to lose, man. You can’t fight and stuff just because you lost a game.”

“All these fights, we had 60 minutes and four quarters for all these fights and now people want to talk and fight. That’s wrong. This is bad for the game. Classless, in my opinion. People need to be better.”
