Deployed Michigan Soldiers and Airmen receive a special holiday shout-out from Governor Whitmer

MICHIGAN (WPBNW/WGTU) — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer took time Thursday to call active-duty members of the Michigan Army National Guard (MIARNG) and Michigan Air National Guard (MIANG) and wish them a happy Thanksgiving.

“Michiganders who serve our state and nation in uniform put their lives on the line to keep us safe,” said Governor Whitmer. “As we celebrate Thanksgiving, we want to recognize the sacrifices they and their families make so that we can live freely. Currently, many active-duty military personnel are separated from their families, working hard and far from home. It was an honor to speak to some of them today and express our gratitude to them. I hope we all take some time this Thanksgiving to honor our service members and their families and pray for their safe return home.”

Governor Whitmer spoke with Soldiers and Airmen currently deployed to Romania, Germany, Iraq and Kuwait in support of U.S. European Command and U.S. Central Command, as well as Soldiers deployed to the southwest border in support of Joint Interagency Task Force West .

  • MIANG’s 217th Air Operations Group (Battle Creek)
  • MIANG (Battle Creek) 110th Logistics Readiness Squadron
  • 1440th MIARNG (Alpena) Fire Department
  • 272nd MIARNG Regional Support Group (Lansing)
  • 1463. MIARNG (Battle Creek) Transport Company

“Today, more than 200 MING members serve outside their homes and families,” said Maj. Gen. Paul D. Rogers, adjutant general and director of the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. “Whether it is supporting the federal law enforcement mission on the Southwest border or protecting our national security interests around the globe, their selflessness and loyalty to their mission during these challenging times should be recognized. We look forward to safely welcoming each unit and home to their families.”
