Derek Jeter’s Greenwood Lake estate is under contract. Here’s what new owners will enjoy

The sale of the magnificent Greenwood Lake estate owned by Yankees legend Derek Jeter is nearing completion.

The home, known locally as Jeter’s “castle,” has been under contract since late May, having been listed for $6.3 million less than 10 days earlier. That was a discount on the $15 million that Jeter had unsuccessfully sought for years.

Listing agent Diane Mitchell of Wright Brothers Real Estate declined to comment Monday on details of the transaction. However, she confirmed that the Warwick, New York home is under contract and the sale is moving forward.

The lakeside mansion has been associated with the Hall of Famer’s family for more than 70 years. Jeter’s grandfather, William Connors, lived there when it belonged to his adoptive parents, John and Julia Tiedemann, who purchased the property in 1952.

The property is located on the western shore of Greenwood Lake, north of the New York-New Jersey border. Although he is rarely seen in the area, Jeter spent summers there when he was young, and his parents have spent time at the house since its renovation, according to residents.

The property’s main home was originally built in 1903 by New York physician Rudolph Gudewill for his wife. When Jeter purchased it from the Tiedemann Family Trust in the early 2000s, it was divided into apartments and was in disrepair.

Bordered by 6-foot-tall stone walls, the property now consists of a main house, a guest house, a pool house and a boathouse. The nearly 4-acre site also includes an infinity pool, gardens and a 700-foot lakefront promenade. There are six bedrooms, 13 bathrooms and four kitchens in 12,500 square feet of living space. There is a fifth outdoor kitchen.

The renovated property was put on the market in 2018 for $14.75 million, a price that dropped to $12.75 in 2021. During this time, Jeter was part owner and general manager of the Miami Marlins Major League Baseball franchise. He separated from the club in 2022.

A failed auction of the home earlier this decade, with a starting bid of $6.5 million, led to the property being relisted earlier this year. The listing was removed within 10 days and a sale has been pending since late May, Mitchell confirmed Monday.
