BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – There was the crime, the prosecution, the trial and his acquittal – but for decades the nation has wondered whether OJ Simpson “did it.”

On Tuesday, WCCO learned that Los Angeles police had a new lead in the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Iroc Avelli, who claimed to be a former bodyguard for the football star, was arrested in Bloomington in 2022 on assault charges. During that arrest, Bloomington police seized a “backpack that contained media USB drives.”

Then, this summer, Los Angeles police said Avelli and his attorney claimed those rides contained “a recording of OJ Simpson confessing to the murders of Nicole Simpson and Ronald Goldman.”

In court, Avelli’s attorney argued that these drives contained “very sensitive, sensitive information that should not be made public, period.”

After an extensive forensic examination of the USB flash drives, Bloomington officials “could not find any information that would be conclusive to the Los Angeles Police Department.”

Avelli was found incompetent in his assault case.

OJ Simpson died in April at the age of 76. No one has ever been convicted of the murder of his ex-wife in 1994.
