The 15-time Major Champion announced on March 11 on X (formerly Twitter) that he retired from the Masters and future competitions due to the race of his left Achilles. On March 11, he was operated on in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“When I started improving my own training and practicing at home, I felt sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was considered broken,” Woods wrote in the post.

He added: “The operation went smoothly and we expect a complete recovery. I am now back home and plan to concentrate on my recovery and rehab. Thank you for the support.”

As found by Golfweek, it is the first year in 2021 that Woods will not compete at the Masters tournament, and for the fifth time in his career he lacks the Golf’s event event.
