FOXBORO — The Patriots are 3-10 in an apparent rebuilding year and may have to settle for moral victories the rest of the season.

The Patriots lost again on Sunday, but there were plenty of positives to take away from their offensive performance, as rookie Drake Maye had one of his most efficient games of the season, going 24 of 30 for 238 yards with a touchdown and an interception, while rushing five times for 59 yards.

In total, the Patriots ran the ball 31 times for 200 yards with one touchdown.

“I think we are dynamic. I think we can hurt them in the passing game and the running game,” Maye said of his offense. “We can do different things. We have game action. We have boots. We let the football run. We threw it on the field. We have guys making plays and running after the catch. There’s another layer to making more explosive plays, but we saw that a lot today with our run after the catch.”

Of course, things weren’t perfect. The Patriots were just 2 of 6 in the red zone and had to settle for three field goal attempts. Another trip to the red zone ended with an interception by Maye against tight end Hunter Henry.

The ball bounced off Henry’s hands and body before being intercepted by Colts safety Julian Blackmon.

“I was just trying to get to him quickly and hopefully he’ll come in. I think I took it the wrong way,” Maye said. “I think if I put it on the opposite shoulder away from the defender, I think that might be a complement. It’s just a shame that it was overturned. It’s just a shame.”

The Patriots made it into the red zone late in the first quarter, but consecutive penalties by offensive linemen Mike Onwenu and Layden Robinson brought the ball to the Colts’ 22-yard line. The Patriots had to settle for a field goal. The Patriots had two more accepted holding penalties against offensive linemen and a fifth holding penalty that was declined.
