Drink responsibly, plan ahead, and use AAA’s Tow-to-Go or other options for a safe ride home

If you plan to consume alcoholic beverages this holiday season or any time of year, Positively Osceola encourages you to do so responsibly and plan ahead. As the American Addiction Centers reports, alcohol consumption increases significantly between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve. With the holiday season in full swing, it is critical to ensure everyone has a safe route home. Whether it’s a company party, a student vacation at home, or New Year’s Eve guests, take the time to educate them about safe driving options.

Here are some ways to plan ahead:

  1. Designate a driver
Take a collaborative approach to safety by selecting a designated driver before the festivities begin. Make sure everyone keeps the keys to prevent anyone from driving under the influence.
  2. Public transportation
If bus or train services are available, these can be a reliable way to get home. Be sure to find out about timetables and pickup locations in advance.
  3. Rideshare services
Uber and Lyft are available almost everywhere. So download their apps in advance to make booking easier. Alternatively, you can call a taxi or local shuttle service for safe transportation.
  1. Rely on Tow to Go

AAA’s Tow to Go program is back for the holiday travel season, providing an important service to help avoid driving disruptions. Available in Georgia and other select states from 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 27th to 5:00 a.m. Monday, December 2nd, this program provides a safe ride home to those in need.

However, AAA emphasizes that Tow to Go should be a last resort. It is a safety net for those who have not planned ahead. So always appoint a driver before partying.

This is what you need to know about “Tow to Go”:

  • It offers a confidential ride for a person and their vehicle to a safe place within a 10 mile radius of the pickup point.
  • Appointments are not possible in advance; The service is only intended for last minute situations.
  • In some cases, AAA may need to make alternative arrangements to ensure the safety of the affected individual.
  • Availability may be limited in rural areas or during severe weather events.

To request service through the AAA Tow to Go program, you may call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO or (855) 286-9246.
