Just after 5 p.m., police responded to southbound Highway 213 near milepost 10.5.

Officials say two people were hospitalized after a two-car collision left one crashing into Jim’s Ice Cream in Hillsboro Thursday morning.

The Mazda struck a Ram CS5, which then pushed the Ram into the southbound lane and crashed head-on into a Ford Escape.

Navarro was taken by helicopter to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The 60-year-old driver of the Ford was also taken to a nearby hospital where he is expected to recover, police said.

Police said they believe the Mazda was the car that had a driving complaint filed minutes before the crash. Police did not provide any information about what the driving complaint was or whether they believe speed or intoxicants played a role.
