Dutch speed skater Joy Beune breaks records on the cover of Playboy

Jutta Leerdam attracts a lot of attention among Dutch speed skaters, and for good reason. Long before she dated Jake Paul, she earned titles like “hottest speed skater in the world” by dominating her competition on and off the ice.

Leerdam is not the only speed skater from the Netherlands who poses a threat to her competition. Speed skating world champion Joy Beune can also dominate on and off the ice. The 25-year-old holds a world record in the junior ranks and her Playboy cover helped her break another.

Joy is on the cover of the December issue of Playboy Netherlands. She is widely considered the biggest name to pose for her country’s magazine issue in more than a decade.

Playboy Netherlands was happy that she agreed to pose for the subject. They wrote in the caption: “We can finally tell everyone: We convinced world speed skating champion Joy Beune to pose nude for Playboy! 🤍 The Borne bomb rocks our cover and twelve pages in the magazine.”

While Joy didn’t immediately say yes, her friend Kjeld Nuis, also a Dutch speed skater, encouraged her to do so. “Playboy asked her the question of all questions last April, a month after she became world champion in Inzell,” Playboy Netherlands continued.

“’I had to think about it, but I quickly knew: Playboy is the next level,’ says Beune now about this conversation. @kjeldnuis immediately said: ‘You should do that! When you look back on the photo shoot when you’re older.’ “You can say: I did it anyway.” He was right. I, on the cover of Playboy, am very happy with the process, from the idea to the filming to the final result.’”

Dutch speed skater Joy Beune’s Playboy cover had to be reprinted due to the quantity sold

It turns out posing for Playboy in just gloves was the right move. Joy’s issue is flying off the shelves at record-breaking speed. So much for worrying about facing criticism.

“That’s very nice to hear,” she said when told of her record-breaking achievement, the Daily Mail reports. “I wouldn’t have expected so many copies to be sold.”

Joy added: “I expected a lot of criticism, but I only hear nice messages from everyone around me and that they think it’s incredibly cool.”

It was reported that Playboy sold four times as many copies as when previous releases were published and that the magazine had to be reprinted in the Netherlands for the first time ever.

This is how you end the year strong. Joy Beune may not be as well known as Jutta Leerdam, but she has just filled that gap.
