A youth from Telangana was shot dead by an assailant at a gas station in Chicago in the early hours of Saturday (India time).

Sai Teja Nukarapu (26), a native of Khammam district, was shot dead at the gas station where he worked part-time. According to his family, the attacker opened fire on him after stealing money.

A friend of Sai Teja informed the family about the incident. The attacker fled after the attack.

Sai Teja, who completed his BBA in India, had moved to the United States just four months ago to pursue an MS degree from Concordia University, Wisconsin. He is said to have had a part-time job at a gas station in recent days.

Sai Teja’s parents N. Koteshwar Rao and Vani, who live in Raparthi Nagar in Khammam town, were shocked to receive the news. He was the couple’s only son.

Telangana Legislative Council member Madhusudan Thatha visited Sai Teja’s parents at their residence and consoled them.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader said that Sai Teja was not on duty when the attackers attacked him but was helping a friend who had gone to work.

The MLC told mediapersons that he spoke to the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) members and sought their help in bringing the body home. The body is expected to reach India next week.

A gloom descended over the neighborhood where Sai Teja’s family lives. Many relatives and friends reached the house and consoled his parents and other family members.

Locals approached Finance Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and asked him to help the family bring Sai Teja’s mortal remains from the US to India.
