Early on signing day, Alabama released Derek Meadows from his LSU commitment

The Alabama Crimson Tide flipped their first prospect on Early Signing Day. Wide receiver Derek Meadows announced he will sign with the Crimson Tide on Wednesday night.

Meadows, a long-time LSU Tigers commitment, is a player that Alabama has continued to keep an eye on in recent weeks and was even predicted to move to the Crimson Tide earlier this week.

According to the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings, Meadows is ranked No. 119 overall nationally and the No. 17 wide receiver nationally. A four-star prospect, Meadows plays for one of the top programs in the country at Bishop Gorman High School in Nevada. He is the third best player in the state.

Where Derek Meadows fits on Alabama’s football depth chart

Alabama’s wide receiver room could look a little different next season than it does now, but it’s very likely that Meadows will be at the top of the depth chart. As for location, a role similar to the one Caleb Odom is currently playing could be an option.

Meadows is in a position where freshmen could make an impact, and the four-star player is certainly capable of doing so. A wide receiver with a remarkable 6-foot-5 height, Meadows could find the field early in 2025 as a potential red zone target.
