At about 11:30 a.m. that day, police said they responded to a disturbance at a home near 34 Street and 138 Avenue and found a “seriously injured” man in critical condition. Paramedics took him to hospital, where he later died.

An autopsy confirmed that 32-year-old Staszko died of “injuries caused by an edged weapon” in a homicide, police said on October 19.

Police arrested 33-year-old Michael Ferreira, who was wanted on a warrant for second-degree murder in connection with Staszko’s death.

Ferreira is also charged with assault with a weapon and making threats toward a 35-year-old woman during the riot.

All three people knew each other, police said.

If you have any information about the gun, contact police at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
