Electric car owners shocked at the price it costs to charge their Chevy Bolt

This electric vehicle owner took her Chevy Bolt to a charging station for the first time and was surprised at the unexpected price she saw.

As electric vehicles become more popular, people rely on them much more than before.

Although these cars supposedly cost less than gasoline, that doesn’t seem to be the case this time.

She also had to wait an hour for her car to reach 80% charge.

Electric car owners shocked at the price it costs to charge their Chevy Bolt

TikToker user @calijessxoo posted a video of herself taking her new Chevy Bolt to a charging station for the first time.

However, she was surprised at how much she had to pay to charge it for the first time.

In a recent comparison, we found that the charging costs of a Tesla Model 3 are significantly lower than those of a gasoline-powered car.

However, this comparison was made by charging the electric vehicle at home, and not everyone can afford to install a charging station at home.

That’s why many electric vehicle owners use pre-existing stations to power their cars, just like this TikTok user.

In the video we also see an EVgo charging station where the kiosk asks you to plug in your car.

“This is the first time I’ve charged my new electric car,” she says.

After completing the transaction at the kiosk, she was also quite surprised that she was charged $55.

“Oh my God, why did you charge me $55?” she exclaimed.

Also, the dashboard said that even with fast charging, her Chevy Bolt would take about an hour to charge to 80%.

How do electric vehicle charging stations work?

Although $55 for a tank of gas would be normal, this is not the case with electric vehicles.

Luckily, the $55 is just to freeze her account.

After she charges her car, the kiosk only charges her for the amount of electricity she uses.

The rest of the money goes back into your account.
