Elon Musk pulls out this old tweet from Joe Biden to make a “statement.”

Outgoing US President Joe Biden granted one pardon to his son Hunter Biden on Sunday evening, shielding him from possible incarceration on federal felony charges related to gun possession and tax violations. Biden previously said he would not pardon or commute his son’s sentence following Hunter Biden’s convictions in the Delaware and California cases.
In May of this year, Biden shared a post on Speaking to reporters during Hunter’s trial on a gun case in Delaware, Biden said: “I stand by the jury’s decision. I will do this and I will not forgive him.”

Elon Musk criticizes Joe Biden

The incident sparked criticism from Tesla boss Elon Musk. On December 2, 2024, Musk reshared the post and added a community notes note. The note criticized Biden’s decision to pardon his son Hunter Biden and said:
“By pardoning his son Hunter not just for a single crime, but for all actual or potential crimes he may or may not have committed over an 11-year period, Joe Biden has made clear that some people are indeed above the law. “
The post is titled “Community Notes kills.”

In announcing the pardon, President Biden said, “Today I signed a pardon for my son, Hunter,” and argued that the prosecution was politically motivated and a “miscarriage of justice.”
Biden continued: “The prosecution in his cases only came about after several of my political opponents in Congress incited them to attack me and oppose my election.” He added: “No reasonable person has ever looked at the facts of this “Looking at Hunter’s cases can reach anyone.” A conclusion other than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son.”
“I hope Americans will understand why a father and a president come to this decision,” he said.
