Elon Musk wants his AI startup to develop video games to take on big corporations.

Musk went on X on November 27 to address the discussion about the size of companies developing video games. Shibetoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Dogecoin, wrote in a post that game developers and journalists had become “ideologically trapped” and Musk had failed to comment on his opinion.

He responded by saying that there are “too many game companies owned by big corporations,” but added a shocking claim. That’s what he claimed xAI, Musk’s AI startup, will launch an AI games studio to “make games great again” He referred to his connections to US President-elect Donald Trump. Whether or not he is serious about starting a games studio is currently unclear, but given Musk’s track record with companies, it’s not outside the realm of possibility.

Musk’s use of the term “AI” in the context of a game studio raises questions that have remained unanswered since. The gaming landscape has blurred the lines between inclusion and hate

Much of this response comes from games released this year and scheduled for release soon. Instead of apologizing and moving on, the characters discuss why that isn’t enough, and some people felt that this scene was “preachy” and bombarded by reviews Veil Guardian on Steam. Others, however, see the scene as a realistic representation of the modern world.

There was also controversy regarding the still unreleased version Assassin’s Creed Shadowswhich has become the target of hate online due to the racial and gender identities of the playable characters. Issues like these are probably an indication that some current online communities are against DEI culture in gaming. These groups feel that having large companies at the helm of development studios means that the games they publish will be changed to suit a certain agenda.

It’s unclear how Elon Musk would be able to eliminate these aspects of development given his list of large companies of his own, but if anyone is going to try it out of spite, it’s him. How the games might turn out is also unclear, but like most AI products in 2024, it’s unlikely to be any more successful than something developed by real people.
