Kangana Ranaut, often regarded as the ‘Queen’ of Bollywood, hit theaters on January 17 with his much-awaited Hindi film ‘Emergency’. Based on the events during India’s Emergency in 1975, the film was under the radar right from the start. Kanagana’s solo direction faced a lot of controversy from the day she announced the film to the day she finally released it. However, it seems that the controversies did not touch the true cinephiles and Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ earned more than Rs 10 Crores in three days.

Was the portrayal of important historical figures in Emergency convincing?

Before the film’s release, there were mixed reports about the film’s box office results. Many analysts were of the opinion that the film would not make a mark at the box office, while others disagreed. To the surprise of the former group, ‘Emergency’ opened on Friday with a tidy amount of Rs 2.5 million and thereafter also saw a rise in business, as per Sacnilk report. On the second day, the film grossed Rs 3.6 million, an increase of 44 percent over the previous day’s collection. On its first Sunday, i.e. fourth day, the film collected Rs 4.35 crore, taking the total collection to Rs 10.45 crore.
With these numbers, Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ is at the top of the box office, leaving heavyweight champions like ‘Game Changer’ behind. Starring Ram Charan in the lead role, ‘Game Changer’ had an impressive opening with Rs 51 Crore; After the first day, however, business went downhill. On Sunday, the film minted Rs. 2.50 crore. This was followed by “Azaad” starring Rasha Thandhni and Aman Devgan. The film grossed Rs. 1.85 crore. And then comes Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2, which grossed Rs 100 crore after more than a month of release. 1.18 core on Sunday.
Apart from Kangana, the cast of ‘Emergency’ includes prominent actors like Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. Additionally, there is Adhir Bhat as Feroze Gandhi and Vishak Nair as Sanjay Gandhi. Each actor successfully portrayed these important political figures, increasing the historical relevance of the film.
