Erling Haaland signs monster contract with Man City, reportedly worth 0,000 per week

Erling Haaland has signed a new contract with Manchester City until 2034, securing the Premier League champions’ long-term future with one of the most lucrative deals in football amid uncertain times for the club on and off the pitch.

City announced the contract for 24-year-old Haaland on Friday, which is valid for 10 years from the start of this season and has scored 111 goals in 125 games since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 to establish himself as one of the best players striker in the world.

The contract is the longest in the Premier League, with Haaland reportedly earning around £500,000 ($600,000) a week.

Asked how he reacted when he found out about Haaland’s unusually long contract, City manager Pep Guardiola replied: “I said: ‘Can you repeat that?'”

The Norwegian striker will be 34 years old when his contract ends. The Athletic reported that the deal removed the release clauses of his previous contract, which was due to expire in June 2027.

“Now I want to continue to develop, keep working to get better and do my best to help us have more success in the future,” Haaland said in a City statement.

Haaland’s new contract comes as City await a verdict after he was accused of 115 breaches of Premier League financial rules. Possible sanctions include a points deduction or relegation from the top division.

Among the promotional materials City released to announce the Haaland deal, the striker said tellingly: “Now I’m City no matter what happens.”

In one of the videos, Haaland can be seen calling city chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and saying: “Everything is signed now.”

“Okay, I feel comfortable now,” Khaldoon was heard replying.

“The fact that he has been signed for so long shows our commitment to him as a player,” said Txiki Begiristain, City’s outgoing director of football, “and his love for this club.”

It begins a busy few weeks for City, who are expected to buy several players as the team endures its worst season since Guardiola took over as manager in 2016.

City sit sixth in the Premier League, 21 games into a title defense that has been derailed by injuries to key players and poor performances from others. A place in the knockout round of the Champions League is not even certain for Guardiola’s team and they face a crucial game against Paris Saint-Germain next week.

City have been linked with the signing of striker Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt and young defenders Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens and Vitor Reis from Palmeiras. They would reportedly cost more than $150 million.

“I’m really confident that we’ll turn things around,” said Haaland. “Things have been difficult as we are so used to winning games but it is also a challenge for us.

“To awaken this feeling of hunger in each and every one of us, we don’t have to look at things in simpler terms. Don’t take things for granted, this is an important thing. I will do everything I can to change things.”

Haaland scored 52 goals in all competitions in his first season at City – including a single-season record 36 in the Premier League – as the team won the league, FA Cup and Champions League to secure the treble.

He scored 38 goals in 45 appearances last season and has already scored 21 goals this season, aiming for a third successive Premier League Golden Boot award.

“Of course he is a special player,” said Guardiola. “Finding a player like Erling is so difficult to find a striker at this level. Once you have it, you must make the effort to keep it.”

Haaland, who announced in October that he was expecting his first child with his girlfriend, said it had been “like a dream these two and a half years.”

“I’m really looking forward to what’s next,” he said.
