ESR Qi2 (Halolock) Magnetic Wireless Car Charger Review: a reassuringly powerful and fast-charging MagSafe charger

ESR Qi2 (Halolock) magnetic wireless car charger review.

The ESR Qi2 (Halolock) Magnetic Wireless Car Charger costs a reasonable $39.99 / £35.99 / AU$59.99 and is available directly from ESR or on Amazon. This is cheaper than many alternatives I’ve tested, which may give it an edge over other models.

Like many other car chargers, the ESR Qi2 Magnetic Wireless Car Charger (Halolock) is available in black on the ESR website, but strangely it is also available in gray and titanium on Amazon (US only). The front of the charger is 80 x 80 mm (3.1 x 3.1 inches), which feels a bit oversized considering I’ve tested slimmer alternatives that hold up just as well. Still, it’s not visible beyond the edges of an iPhone 12 Pro or an iPhone 13 Pro; It may just be a personal preference that I would prefer something smaller that isn’t so obvious when there’s no phone. I also wasn’t a fan of the shiny round MagSafe charging area; I didn’t like that it could reflect light and also collect dust.

The picture shows the back of the ESR car charger and clearly shows the charger mount ball joint and clip.

The ESR Qi2 Magnetic Wireless Car Charger (Halolock) has two mounting options. It has an adhesive pad to attach to the dashboard and a separate clip attachment to attach to the air vents. I found this worked well; The clip is difficult to open, but I managed to open it enough to slide it open. It has a handy little stability arm that folds down and keeps it from bouncing around while driving, which even some of the best iPhone chargers for in-car use don’t offer. The charger comes with a USB-C cable, which I powered via an adapter in my car’s cigarette lighter.
