Even an idiot like me can upgrade the Steam Deck SSD, and this great Black Friday deal on a 1TB Crucial hard drive is a great opportunity to do it yourself

Hey, I get it: Even though people say it’s easy, opening your Steam Deck and updating its SSD can seem pretty ominous. You have to stick a pick in there to pry off the plastic casing, push away the ribbon cables, disconnect the battery, and so on and so forth. What if something happens? What happens if the sensitive ribbon cable breaks? What happens if something comes loose? What happens if you spill tea there? What if a flock of seagulls came and carried your deck away, never to return?

All frightening thoughts, but I can reassure you: I’m a real idiot and had no problems replacing the puny 512GB standard SSD in my Steam deck a few months ago (and if you need help, you can look) . Check out our handy Steam Deck SSD replacement guide). It wouldn’t have taken more than 15 minutes to get the whole thing fully functional again on a fancy new memory stick, and here’s the kicker: the Crucial P310 1TB model is currently available at a hefty Black Friday discount on Amazon – after down from $172 to $70.
