Experience the history of the Revolutionary War come alive with the reenactment of the Battle of Barnegat

BARNEGAT, NJ – See a Revolutionary War battle come to life before your eyes this weekend with the annual reenactment of the Affair at the Cedar Bridge in Barnegat.

The 21st commemoration of the 1782 Affair (242 years ago) in Cedar Bridge will be held Sunday, December 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cedar Bridge Tavern, 200 Old Halfway Road in Barnegat

Each year, the Ocean County Parks & Recreation Department and the Ocean County Cultural and Heritage Department stage a reenactment of what is believed to be the last stand of the Revolutionary War, which apparently took place at the Cedar Bridge Tavern. Attendees should park at Jersey Sand Supply, LLC at 560 Route 72, Barnegat and the county will provide shuttle buses to the fully restored Ocean County Historic Site.

Reenactments of the historic battle will take place at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. Participating reenactors wear period clothing and fire empty black powder muskets to recreate the smoke, sounds and action of the battle.

In addition to the historic battle, guests can tour the building and grounds and enjoy a tavern exhibit featuring historic games and historic drink preparation. Large chess and checkers are available for guests to play.

There will be arts and crafts for children. The band “Sea Dogs” will be on site and play contemporary music throughout the day. Limited refreshments will be provided.

New this year are demonstrations of 18th century blacksmithing, carpentry and weaving. Abby Readlinger, author of “The Young Federalists,” will be selling her books during the event. Fikar’s best marketer sells contemporary clothing and accessories.
