Eyes on San Francisco when the big event weekend arrives

NBA All-Star activities started in San Francisco in the run-up to the game on Sunday.

San Francisco buzzes with activity

What we know:

With the All-Star game and the Chinese New Year parade, the city guides emphasized that security was a top priority.

Chase Center was filled with activities on Thursday when it was prepared for the world stage. Inside, a large team of crew members, athletes and television production teams were ready for the celebrations.

Byron Spruell, President of the NBA League Operations, said that fans can expect a weekend with basketball campaigns.

“The familiar part is actually the format of the mini tournament, which we have been making for the rising stars on Friday for several years,” said Spruell. “Now we are being broadcast this champion until Sunday evening, also a mini tournament. But obviously a well-known format. We look forward to it.”

Many eyes are on the city.

“We can speak in Germany, we can speak worldwide,” said Paul Benedict, Senior Vice President of Broadcast content for the NBA. “Two hundred and trimmed countries all over the world and 16 different languages.”

The NBA said the show was becoming spectacular.

“We have successfully played a number of finals with the Warriors over the years,” said Matthew Brabants, Senior Vice President and Head of International Contents for the NBA. “This is really an opportunity to present San Francisco over a whole weekend.”

“I circled this weekend in my calendar,” said the mayor of San Francisco, Daniel Lurie.

Lurie said the city was ready not to organize the big weekend with one but two main events. He noticed that preparations had been going on for months to prepare the city.

“With hundreds of thousands of visitors who come for the NBA All-Star game and the New Year’s celebrations in our city, our priority is clear,” said Lurie. “We ensure that everyone, every single person feels safe and greeted.”

While the crews work in the Chase Center, the police and first aiders work around the clock.

San Francisco’s chief of police, Bill Scott, said that there are no specific or credible threats to events at this point, and the teams for public security are preparing for low-tech threats for important events, such as New Year’s trucks -attack in New Orleans.

“We are also prepared for it,” said Chief Scott. “So if you come to the parade route and even some of the venues associated with the All-Star game, you will see a high level of safety and fastening of the route.”

A problem with which the city will probably be exposed to the weekend is traffic.

City leaders encourage everyone to use public transit to move away. Muni will be free all weekend.
