The final race of the 2024 Formula 1 season takes place this Sunday with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

And while Max Verstappen has secured the drivers’ title for the fourth time in a row and goes into the final with success after another win in Qatar, the constructors’ title is still up for grabs as Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri try to defend McLaren against Charles Leclerc Carlos Sainz in the Ferrari.

It would be a fitting end to Sainz’s time at the Scuderia as he prepares to depart with Lewis Hamilton as his successor, although there are worrying signs about the Brit’s form.

While Norris can banish any lingering disappointment from his title fight with Verstappen by leading the Papaya to their first team title in 26 years.

Here’s everything we know about the prize money on offer to teams in Abu Dhabi:

How much money can teams win from the constructors’ championship?

Formula 1’s huge prize pot revolves around the constructors’ championship, with the pot consisting of 50 percent of Formula 1’s commercial rights revenue for each season, Sky Sports reports.

For example, in 2023, this figure was $3.2 billion (£2.3 billion), which represents an estimated prize money of $1.6 billion (£1.2 billion).

Some conclusions are drawn to recognize the value of certain teams such as Ferrari as they attract more fans to the sport than some of the smaller teams due to their worldwide popularity.

After these deductions, the remaining amount is divided between the 10 teams; The champion receives an estimated 14 percent, while the last place receives only six percent.

Red Bull was estimated to have earned $140m (£106m) for its 2023 title, with each team taking around £7m less for each position.

It should be a heated final Grand Prix of the season, even if Verstappen has already won the drivers’ championship.

Ferrari is hoping to break a 16-year wait for a constructors’ title, while McLaren celebrated its last triumph in 1998.

How many points are available?

Each team can score a maximum of 44 points on a regular race weekend, i.e. Abu Dhabi. The race winner receives 25 points, 18 of which go to second place, while there is an extra point for the driver who sets the fastest lap of the race provided they finish in the top 10.

The points are then distributed from third to tenth place: 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1.

Constructors’ Championship after the Qatar GP

1. McLaren – 640 points

2. Ferrari – 619 points

3. Red Bull Racing – 581 points

4. Mercedes – 446 points

5. Aston Martin – 92 points

6. Alpine – 59 points

7. Haas – 54 points

8. RB – 46 points

9. Williams – 17 points

10. Clean – 4 points

What does Ferrari need to overtake McLaren and win the constructors’ championship?

To win the constructors’ championship, Ferrari must overcome a 21-point gap to its rival McLaren.

This means they need some help from other teams as only a one-two in the Grand Prix and a win for Leclerc and Sainz for the fastest lap can guarantee a 17-point lead in their favour.

What happens if the teams are tied?

If both teams have the same number of points, the team with the most wins from the 2024 season would win the title, the next tiebreaker is most second places, then third places and so on.

If it is a draw then Ferrari must win the race as they have five wins compared to McLaren’s five wins, but the Papaya holds ten second places to the Scuderia’s four second places. Therefore, a victory for Leclerc or Sainz would bring the team to a total of six wins.
