Blackpool manager Steve Bruce was disappointed after his side were knocked out of the FA Cup following a poor first-half performance in a 2-1 defeat to his former club Birmingham.

The visitors scored twice in the first 24 minutes through Scotland strikers Lyndon Dykes and Lukas Jutkiewicz to take control before Jordan Rhodes came on and scored a consolation goal at Bloomfield Road.

Bruce, who both played for and managed the Blues, said: “We didn’t attack Birmingham. We made a few changes in the second half and it was a completely different cup game.

“And maybe we had the better chances in the second half. Compared to the first half when it was just a walk in the park for them, which was disappointing, we definitely made it more of a cup game.

“Well, we huffed and puffed and, like I said, we made a trophy tie out of it. (Matthew) Pennington had a great chance at the far post and if there’s anyone you want to have that chance it’s a centre-back with a header, but that wasn’t to be.

“But even in the first half we were nowhere near where we should be.”
