Falcons agree to the conditions for the contract extension with Jake Matthews

The news of Matthews’ reported extension broke on Sunday evening. This marks the second extension of the Falcons before the official beginning of 2025 on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Long Snapper Liam McCullough signed his own contract extension last Thursday.

Matthews had two years in his contract, which recently received an extension by three years in 2022. He was supposed to be a free agent in 2027, but now he is driving back to 2029 this year. At that time, Matthews will have completed his 15th season. The 2024 season marked its 11th place.

The falcons brought Matthews to Atlanta with number 6 in the 2014 NFL design. Since then he has started 179 out of 180 games. The only game he has missed in his career was the second of his rookie season. Matthews was inactive due to a high-cluster that he had suffered in his NFL debut the previous week.

On November 26, 2023 – a victory 12 against the New Orleans Saints – Matthews exceeded the former Falcons Quarterback Matt Ryan to most consecutive starts in franchise history. Ryan’s benchmark from 154 started in 2009 and ended in 2019. Matthews started in 2014 and lasted until 2025 with 178.

Matthews is 33 years old and originally comes from Missouri City, Texas.
