Falcons earn shootout victory over Huskies

The Bowling Green Falcons (5-5-2 overall, 2-2-2 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) earned two CCHA honors with a shootout victory over the Michigan Tech Huskies (7-4-1, 5-2-1). Points ) Saturday at Slater Family Ice Arena.

Both teams managed to score two goals in regular time and were unable to find the winner in extra time. BGSU was able to win in the shootout with Brody Waters and Brett Pfoh scoring and Cole Moore stopping both shots.

In the win, junior Dalton Norris recorded his fourth multi-point game of his career and second of the season with a goal and an assist. Senior Christian Stoever made his first start of the season and made 43 saves in 47:08 minutes played.

BGSU senior Ryan O’Hara recorded two assists on the night, bringing his total to nine assists this season and taking sole possession of the lead in points. Maxwell Martin scored his third goal in his first season

The Falcons went 4-4 on penalties and 2-4 on power plays, and BGSU senior goaltender Christian Stoever recorded a career-high 43 saves in 47:08 minutes after being relieved by fellow sophomore Cole Moore.

Both teams managed to score in the first period, with Stoever scoring 15 goals in the first period and keeping the Huskies off the field.

The Falcons prevailed 4:16 into the second power play after the Huskies had too many men on the ice. Waters found Norris in the back of the net, who fired the puck for the Falcons’ first goal of the night.

With less than five minutes left, the Falcons took advantage of a puck on the power play, which Martin used to extend the lead to 2-0.

Michigan Tech scored two quick goals early in the third period, tying the game at two goals each.

Neither team managed to score a goal for the remainder of regulation time and extra time. In overtime, BGSU went 4-for-5 on faceoffs.
