Family receives car through Wheels 4 Hope

A local Greensboro family received a much-needed car donation from Wheels 4 Hope, a program that helps families with transportation needs. Erika Cortez-Reyes is now the proud owner of an Acura SUV. “That means a lot. “It means a lot that I can transport, like, to daycare, to work, to her appointments, to the store, to the grocery store, to the bus stop, to any place I need to go,” said Cortez-Reyes.Cortez- Reyes has two children, two-year-old Ambrose and two-month-old Satori. She had her baby while staying at a homeless shelter for pregnant women called Room at the Inn. “I had nothing “It was very – I was homeless and couldn’t take care of my oldest, and they took me in and helped me,” Cortez-Reyes said. Now she has a home, a new job and transportation. “Finally I was blessed with the car too. And I’m very grateful and I couldn’t do it without the support team and the love and of course God,” Cortez-Reyes said. Present at the ceremony on Tuesday was Charles Almy, who made the donation. He said it was his daughter’s car. “There are different ways to help the community and help people in need. I think it’s becoming a viable option, especially now,” Almy said. Wheels 4 Hope has been helping families “We’re the only nonprofit in the area doing this.” “So people are really relying on us,” said Wheels 4 Hope’s Adrian Scott-Singleton. “People really rely on us to bring cars to them and get them where they need to go,” Scott-Singleton said. Cortez-Reyes and her children are the latest to receive help through the program.

He said it was his daughter’s car.

“There are different ways to help the community and help people in need. I think it’s becoming a viable option right now,” Almy said.

Wheels 4 Hope has been helping families with transportation needs for 25 years.

The car donation program has reportedly helped more than 4,000 families and individuals.

“We are the only nonprofit in the region doing this. So people really depend on us,” said Adrian Scott-Singleton from Wheels 4 Hope.

“People really depend on us to get cars to them to get them where they need to go,” Scott-Singleton said.

Cortez-Reyes and her children are the latest to receive help from the program.
