Superstar rapper Drake apparently took a few shots at NBA legend LeBron James in his new titled freestyle Fighting Irishwhich fell on Friday.

Several X users expressed their belief that Drake was referencing LeBron in the song, including a line about the watch trade:

If Fighting Irish is actually about James, the song hints that he and Drake were once close before they broke up.

Drake’s apparent targeting of the Los Angeles Lakers star and one of the greatest basketball players of all time sparked numerous reactions on social media:

Maybe it removes any doubt about it Fighting Irish As for LeBron, the fact that the team name for St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, where James attended before being taken No. 1 overall in the 2003 NBA draft, is the Fighting Irish.

While the exact origin story of Drake’s feud with James is unknown, there’s a good chance it stems from LeBron’s position in the feud between Drake and fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar.

Lamar’s diss about Drake with the title Not like us was one of the biggest songs of 2024 and he performed it multiple times at his Pop Out concert at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California in June.

James was present and appeared to be having fun while fellow NBA stars DeMar DeRozan and Russell Westbrook joined Lamar on stage.

LeBron, who is in the midst of his 22nd NBA season, turned 40 on Monday, becoming the first player in league history to appear in a game as both a teenager and a 40-year-old.
