Father of teenager shot to death in Southwest Miami – Dade knows it could have been much worse

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Florida – A South Florida father is thankful he didn’t lose his son after a shooting over the holiday weekend.

Donald Moss’ 17-year-old son, Christian Houston, was shot and killed on November 30 around 7 p.m. not far from his home in southwest Miami-Dade County.

Police said they received a Shot Spotter alert in the area of Southwest 138th Court and 262nd Lane at that time.

“He didn’t even know he was hit, he just felt like his arm was heavy,” Moss said.

Moss said Houston and his cousin were on their way home after hanging out with some friends when the shots rang out.

“He’s a teenager who was just walking and heard gunshots,” Moss said. “It just so happened that he got hit. When he got home he saw blood dripping, so he knew. I took off his jacket and put a towel over the wound when I saw the blood. I think he was hit in the heart.”

Police said when they arrived at the scene they found 10 spent bullet casings.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

“An ambulance came and rushed to the hospital,” Moss said. “When we got there the doctor said it had come out of the shoulder. No organs hit.”

Moss said Houston was a good student who played soccer and that the teenager was in good spirits despite the shooting.

“It’s up and down,” Moss said. “When the pain hits, he knows it’s real, but he’s still a joker.”

Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
