FBI investigating reports of drones the size of cars flying over New Jersey – WPXI

Forget the Jersey Devil, there’s a new mystery in the Garden State. Someone is flying large drones, almost the size of a car, over New Jersey.

The FBI confirmed that a “cluster of drones and possibly fixed-wing aircraft” were flying over the Raritan River, ABC News reported.

The areas where they flew are near President-elect Donald Trump’s Bedminster golf course. There is also a military installation nearby.

They are about two meters in diameter, are illuminated and fly silently, WABC reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration first received reports about the drones on November 18, Fox News reported. The FAA issued two temporary flight restrictions in the region, but drone flights continued this week.

If anyone is found to be flying a drone in these areas while the TFRs are in effect, they could face a $75,000 fine and revocation of their certification.

Morris County Sheriff James Gannon said there was no danger to the public, Fox News reported.

But that may not calm people’s nerves.

Ryan Dawson, a Mendham Township resident, told WCBS, “If you look up, you will see them. I mean, they’re everywhere, every night.”

“My wife and I drove. Directly above us we saw one that was as big as our car. I mean, it’s crazy,” he said.

Olivia DeMattio, who also lives in Mendham Township, said, “They are very fast. They dart around. But no one can figure out why they are here.”

“The rumors have ranged from Russian spies to people stalking Trump to aliens, so no one really knows what’s going on, but it’s definitely concerning,” she told WCBS.

“I don’t feel particularly safe at the moment with these flying over me every night, and the fact that it’s not just one or two of them, but at least ten of them, every single night, for a few weeks,” says Kate Perry, who lives in Denville, told WABC.
