According to the report, the clubs are already in negotiations over a winter transfer. Urbig is currently only the substitute behind Marvin Schwäbe in Cologne.

Cologne is said to have rejected an initial Bayern offer. The negotiations are therefore about a transfer fee of 8 million euros. A second Bayern offer is now to follow.

The FC bosses were at a members’ meeting on Wednesday evening. When asked about UrGroß, Cologne coach Gerhard Struber said: “He will be playing here in the foreseeable future.”

Managing director Christian Keller explains: “It is true that each of several top European clubs – and Bayern is also a top club in Europe – has expressed interest in Jonas.” And if a player has opportunities elsewhere that he doesn’t have with us, “It’s not so unreasonable for him to deal with it.”

The Cologne player should become the new number 2 at Bayern. The regular substitute keeper Daniel Peretz (24) will be out for at least two weeks due to a bruised kidney. Sven Ulreich (36) was also absent recently for personal reasons, but was back on the bench against Gladbach.

SPORT BILD had already reported two weeks ago that Urbig was said to be very popular with Bayern. The Bayern bosses’ plan is to give Peretz more match practice in the summer, to plan with Ulreich as number 3 and to bring in a goalkeeping talent that should grow alongside Manuel Neuer. Urbig is the top candidate for this and would become a permanent substitute keeper behind the captain.

Neuer’s contract expires in the summer, but will soon be extended along with Ulreich’s. The 2014 world champion should get a changed, more performance-related contract. Another factor is that new players will have to hand over games in the future in order to help build a successor.

A successor, probably called Urbig…
