Federal agents capture wanted fugitive in fatal 2009 Parkway crash

U.S. Marshalls have nabbed a fugitive wanted in connection with a fatal 2009 vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway in Ocean County, authorities announced Monday.

Chaudhry Yousaf, 52, was charged with vehicular homicide over the March 2009 traffic accident but never appeared in court after posting bail. U.S. Marshals arrested him on Christmas Eve at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said in a statement.

Yousaf’s last address was in Valley Stream, New York on Long Island, the statement said. On Friday, he was extradited to New Jersey and taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, the statement said.

The office did not say exactly how Yousaf was found after 15 years on the run.

The prosecution reported the fatal accident that occurred on March 28, 2009 at mile marker 77 on the Parkway:

Yousaf was driving a vehicle south with two passengers, Harris Kahn, 26, of Queens, New York, and Kishwa Jahan, 32, of Queens Village, New York.

Yousaf lost control of the vehicle, it crashed into a road sign and continued into a wooded area where it crashed into a tree. New Jersey state troopers arrested Yousaf at the scene and charged him with drunk driving.

Yousaf and Jahan were taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment of minor injuries and then released.

Kahn was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune but died the next day.

Yousaf was charged with vehicular homicide the same day and booked into the Ocean County Jail. His bail was set at $150,000 on March 30, 2009, and Yousaf posted bail that day and was released.

Yousaf failed to appear at a mandatory court date on February 5, 2010. A judge then issued an arrest warrant for him.

He remained a fugitive until authorities arrested him at the airport.
