Fema evaluates damage after the fire tears down by Mannford

Mannford City officials said the Fema had arrived on March 17 to evaluate the damage. Officials also said they should be back on March 19.

2 News’ Isabel Flores spoke to Mike Cavenah.

He lost his home during the fire, but said he was one of the lucky ones.

“I’m fine, I am fully covered, I will recover from it, I’m fine, but there is a lot that not,” said Cavenah. “I brought a few empty dead to these houses down here and they said we had nothing to do.”

He said back that he was just lucky that he and his family are safe.

“You don’t think it will happen to you,” said Cavenah. “When I went, I had time to pull out my trailer, I could have got my weapons and all the stuff.”

He said he realized that everything could be replaced- what is most important is a family.

2 Messages confirmed with the chief of police Jerry Ridley that the Fema was in the city.

“You have just held an assessment of the area and tried to see what the damage looked like, see how much damage was done and tried to find out how many of the residents had no insurance,” he said. “You will try to be back on Wednesday.”

Ridley said that he was surprised by the damage caused by the fire.

“It is more destruction than what I expected when the fire broke out for the first time,” he said.

Mike Cavenah agrees.

“It’s sad for this little city,” he said. “I think it could have been worse, it could have been much worse.”
